Arches

54”Wx45”H (2024)

Using dense hand stitching, I created the image of two large arches, touching each other at their crowns. I used dark value threads in the body of the arches and light values in the background. I changed the color of the threads in each quadrant of the quilt to produce the illusion that one quarter of the quilt is glazed in orange, while others are glazed in blue, red and green. This is the fourth in a series of four-color, in which the fabrics are selected to create value progression and that use dense hand stitching to create secondary designs that interact with the fabric below

Arches won first place in the handwork category at Quiltcon 2025, and was shown at 41st Annual New Legacies Contemporary Art Quilts at the Lincoln Center and Quilts=Arts=Quilts 2025 at at the Schweinfurth Art Center.
