Apparition X

Apparition X 39.5”x 39.5 (2022)

This quilt was originally made for an “X” exhibit, honoring the 10th anniversary of the Modern Quilt Guild. I selected four fabrics to create a value progression, with the dark red square at the center. I created the X figure by freehand stitching wavy lines, changing from fuschia thread in the background to peach in the body of the X. Because the peach is the lighter value thread, the X appears ghostlike.

This quilt was juried into Quiltcon 2023 in the X Challenge exhibit, th Pacific International Quilt Festival 2023, where it was awarded Best Mid-Century Modern Wall Quilt, and the Art of the Quilt 2023 at the Menino Art Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
